At Cameras For Girls, our mission is to empower girls and young women across Africa with the resources they need to learn photography, share their stories and ultimately find work as paid journalists. We understand the importance of sustainability in our charity work, which is why we have put practices in place to ensure that our projects remain sustainable for years to come. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in today's world. Cameras For Girls is a registered Canadian charity focused on female empowerment and gender equality in Africa. We believe sustainable development can be achieved by providing girls with the resources and knowledge they need to become community leaders. By giving them access to cameras, we are giving them the opportunity to share their stories and experiences with the world. Where females are oppressed, it becomes essential to provide them with tools to help them speak up about their experiences to change the discourse around gender inequality—a core part of our mission at Cameras For Girls.

At Cameras For Girls, we believe that sustainability is essential for our success and the success of our mission to promote female empowerment through photography. We have set ambitious goals to ensure that our project is sustainable and that we can continue to empower girls across Africa.

Sustainability means providing our students with cameras and all necessary equipment, resources, and training materials without negatively impacting their environment or depleting resources in their communities. As our project expands to countries in Africa, we want to ensure that the communities we are working with have enough resources for the long term and that our impact on their environment is minimal.

Furthermore, Cameras For Girls strives to ensure that our beneficiaries have access to the same opportunities for education and growth that boys do. We are passionate about promoting gender equality and empowering young girls to pursue their dreams. Through our photography project, we strive to provide girls with the tools they need to realize their full potential, no matter where they come from.

To keep sustainability at the core of our programming, we will hire local female photographers and trainers to carry on our work as we expand to other countries. This frees up our head instructor, the founder and executive director, to expand the programming across Africa. More importantly, it empowers a female to lead her community and become a valuable partner in the process.
